Sometimes our parents teach us this without knowing the long-term effects as if it makes us stronger. This actually drains us spiritually. It's like trying to put a lamp shade on a volcano to cover up the fact it's a powerful force to be reckoned with. As we know that will never happen to a volcano in real life. So, stop trying to suppress the light within and allow your true nature to be revealed. Let things burn away if they no longer serve you or make happy. But don't hide who you are. Now is the time to reclaim your independence even if people around you don't like the new you. What matters is are you happy overall. Opinions of others will only corrode and put more mental doubts in your mind. Try to be easy with yourself at this time and others as you move forward. Some will understand and some just will not get it until it's their time to be awakened. As spirit knows we all cannot remain sleeping in a world that needs full potential and awareness.
